A Dusting of the Cobwebs....

welcome to my blog!
...allow me a brief introduction...

In a reacent conversation with my daughter, her questions were why I, and her Dad were so quiet about our lifes? Meaning writing or telling about our own personal historys.

I didn't think there was anything important to write about. As I was just a normal person, getting up in the morning and getting the day started, getting kids off to school, or meeting schedules of the whole family, cleaning house, and landry. Keeping little ones busy, and changing diapers, comming home fixing dinner, helping with homework, putting kids to bed, watch some news, go to bed. And then do it all over again the next day. Then some days was teaching lessons in Primary, RS, MIA, Sundayschool, cub scouts, or helping at schools, ect. Family home evening, Visiting teaching, and even some Home teaching and being the family schaefer. most of the time we had one car, 6 kids, one working husband. Oh yes, the multi years of music lessons, and baseball teams, coaching, and even one major jumproap champion, for one daughter.

We had trials too. some were very hard, just thinking about a single memory of losing our son, brings tears. But we are told that this life is to meet trials, and how we handle them will be for our own eternal growth.

A very wise Stake President, President Alred, once said "We are here to be schooled in the principles of eternity. We will work by the sweat of our brow, to work our way through this life... But remember we are here to be schooled in the principles of eternity."

So, I welcome you to my blog. Please feel free to stay and go as you please, and wander where you wish. And, as always, feel comfortable in sharing those stories that you may feel are just "an every day" thing as well...

Its The Turkeys Road...

March 3, 2018

The road going to the area of my home is called Willow Street.  Today three Turkeys think they own it...

On my way home from Walmart,  Three Turkeys were on the road.  The two largest black Turkeys were standing on  the side of the road as if they were waiting to cross.  I drove very slowly, almost at a stop, as I didn't want to hit them... then they decided to attacked my car.
As they lunged their bodies at my car I saw one of their heads popping up and down, looking into my front passenger window.  That was a very interesting experience to have a turkey looking at me....disapprovingly...
I had at least two cars behind me...  As I pulled slowly away I saw they were greeted in the same way.

I really do enjoy living here in Grantsville, its a Rural area, where you can have some farm animals.  In this area there are horses, cows, chickens, turkeys, sheep, goats, and pigs, and some buffaloe.  A few lamas for protecting the sheep.
And of course a few dear that come down from the mountains in the winter.  We even had a Cougar or Bobcat one spring.  We have Pheasants, Quails, and have had Bald Eagles.  I love the Kill Dear birds and the song they sing....  We have so much that I have not mentioned.  Beauty is every where to enjoy...

Pneumonia...

Jan 25 2018

Not a nice way to start out the new year... I thought I had  a bad cold, and was glad it was not the flue, as the flue is real bad this year.  About fifty folks have died so far... adults and children.

I have had a very hard time breathing.  I have asma, and now COPD.  After about a week and half, I went to see the doctor as I had a rattle in my chest that was not going away.  She told me I had Pneumonia..That combination does not help to breath.... Dr Rebecca wanted to put me in the hospital, I said if I behaved myself could I just stay home... she gave me a prescription to help to get over it.

One Sunday morning I when I woke up I realized I was panting for breath.  I couldn't breath very well.  I called Bro. Grua, my neighbor, to see if he could give me a Priesthood blessing.  He did so, and by afternoon I was breathing almost normal.

Two weeks later I still had a rattle in my chest, I called the Dr. office, they suggested I come in and see the Dr as soon as I could, which they had a opening on Monday.  However it was with Levi the other Dr as Rebecca, my Dr was not working on Mondays.    I was told I still had Pneumonia.  He gave me a new antibiotic...I had reaction to it...My good foot, swelled up and became extremely painful, to the point that I could hardly put any pressure on it to walk.  I asked each of my children to keep me in their prayers, as I really needed help.  I soon received a phone call from Marilyn Grua, She and her husband was outside my front door, they came to give me a blessing.  leaning over a walking cart to help me take pressure off my foot,  I opened the front door, surprised and grateful to see them. One of my kids, Jennifer, in Arizona, had called them... Bro. Grua gave me another Priesthood blessing,  by the early afternoon the next day, I was walking on my foot.  Pain had eased enough for me to walk, and kept getting better.

I stopped taking the meds, called the Dr. office and reported my reaction.  Dr Levi ordered another  new antibiotic.   I took  three pills, and had another reaction, this time my throat burned badly, with gas coming up and down.  I stopped taking it after 3 pills.  even drinking plain water the next day burned my throat all the way down.  I don't need the newest up to date meds.  the old ones that work without problems, work just fine for me.

I have had Pneumonia for six weeks... I will be so glad when I am well, and very thankful for the power of the Priesthood, and that its not the flue.

Our Prophet, Thomas S. Monson, passed away last night.  He will be greatly missed by me.  I was surprised that he had been called as a Bishop at the age of 22, and a aposel, one of the twelve,  at the age of 36.
A Great man, and Wonderful gift of humor, a caregiver for everyone forever.

Reviewing year 2017...

Dec 31, 2017

This has been a full year for me.  I take a deep breath and wonder what this new year starting tomorrow will bring.

I have had two brothers leave this earth,  Ivan H Brimhall  Died March 16, 2017 in SLC, which was kind of expected.  And Cecil Robert Brimhall (Bob) Died  July 24, 2017 in Ogden, which was a surprise to me...how ever I hear that both had colon cancer.
I have only one brother living, Verl Brimhall.  Its a wired feeling to feel that you don't have any of your family left.....soon it will be just me.....maybe...

I have two additions to my family, two Great Grand Children.  Both are from Launie's family.  Ivie had a boy, in Idaho.  and Sharlyn had a Girl, in Arizona.

My daughter Pauli had a miscarriage this week, it was hard on all of us.  Pauli was about three months along.  started a day or two before Christmas.

I was filled with a wonderful surprise a few months ago of learning that Terry and Cathy Walker, Lynn's brother, were called to work in the Provo Temple.  What a wonderful blessing for them and their family.  I love to watch the change it is causing for Terry.
Now that is wonderful words!  If you knew about Terry and his life, and see how he has and is changing,  the heavens couldn't keep the angels from singing.

I was called to work in Young Women's in my ward.  To help with the Personal Progress program.
I say MIA and every body looks at me like what is that?  Time has changed since I or my girls were in it.  We have 60 plus girls, and I don't know what I am doing....My helper who is alot younger, was just called to be a Beehive teacher.

People worry that I am staying in the house all the time.  Which I am keeping busy...I have firends that keep me moving,  Penny took me and LaDean on her vacation.  Then Terry and Cathy took me to Manti....We were to go to the Temple, but found it closed when we got there.  The next day we went to the Payson Temple, which is Beyond Beautiful...

I am in a Card group of nine ladies, which meet on Mondays, for about two to three hrs. playing "Hand and Foot".  we meet at a different house, have a light lunch and play cards.
I also am part of a "Lunch Bunch" that meets the first Thursday of each month at noon at a restaurant for visiting and getting to know each other better.

I also vist teach five other sisters,  My companion is Marilyn Grua, who lives next door.

Christmas Made by Hand...

Nov 20 2017

Two years ago Jennifer asked me if I would make her a copy of the Christmas Advent Calendar that our family had used for years.

When Jenifer was very small I had seen this Advent Calendar in Linda Perkins home,  a neighbor, and church member, in Arizona.   She had seen one and had made one for her family.  I borrowed hers and made a copy for my family.

It was made with a burlap background and felt cut outs, with all kinds of sequins, beads, ect.

I was not able to make one two years ago, as Lynn was sick and my full attention was taking care of him.  last year I just couldn't get into the feeling of Christmas.

I thought I would try to make one for all three girls, this year as they have been asking about getting one, for Christmas.  I had made one for Launie many years ago when her family was small.

It has taken many months to make, as it is all hand done.  Cutting most everything out of felt. I even took felt and scissors on a trip with my friend Penny Prestwich, when we went to St. George, to cut out the ornaments that was needed, and I needed the time to work on them.

I was pleased with the excitement the girls,  Jennifer, Pauli and Jodie have expressed about receiving one this year.  I hope they have many years of enjoyment with it, and perhaps make one for their kids when they want to carry on the tradition...

Crashing a Missionary Party...

Oct 7, 2017

Have you ever felt you were crashing a party, and had talked your daughter into doing it with you??

Well I wasn't exactly crashing a party,  I had been invited!

Earlier in the week I had received a envelope with a invitation to a Farewell Party for Elder Samuel Brimhall.....no other name was on the invite or on the outside of the envelope.  My only clue was his last name, Brimhall,  as this is my maiden name.  and someone knew my address in Grantsville.

To my surprise this Farewell Party was going to be in Tooele, close to where Pauli lived.  As far as I knew their were no relatives of mine that lived in Tooele.

Pauli and I walked into the Church building and looked at all the folks that were there, the cultural hall was mostly filled with people and round tables.  they were visiting with each other and enjoying themselves.  I said to Pauli I felt I was crashing a party, as I didn't know anyone.

I soon found a lady by the name of Sherrie, who I thought was Jeannette, but found out she was her daughter.  She also pointed out Elder Samuel Brimhall, who I was able to talk to and introduce my daughter Pauli to.  Elder Brimhall is from Virginia.  Which left my head spinning, as to how I fit into his family.  I saw Mike, My brother Ivan's son.  Through him I think I learned that Samuel was his grandson.  Which would make Samuel, my brother Ivan's Great Grandson.

I gave Elder Brimhall my Email and home address,  I hope he will write sometime.
I also understand that this party was done by Bro and Sis Booth.  Elder Brimhall will be staying with them and they will be driving him to the Missionary home in Provo on Wednesday.

I am grateful to have met more family members that I didn't know,  and was surprised how much older my nephews have gotten, almost to the point of not recognizing them.

Terry and Cathy Walker...

Aug 12, 2017

What a Very Special Surprise for me today!
Terry, Lynn's brother, and Cathy came for a visit today.  They had some Very Special Exciting News for me...
Terry and Cathy have been called to be Temple Workers... in the Provo Temple, the one that is close to BYU.   Terry will be working at the Vale. which is very special.

What a Special Blessing....I never dreamed Terry would be called to this position.
The Lord knows his children, and their hearts...even when they fight against the pricks, or what they know is right.

Not only will this bless Terry and Cathy, but also their family, and any body elts who has any connection to Terry.

They will be starting next Thursday.....Both their Bishop, and Stake President felt this was the right call for Terry and Cathy at this time....

I am so Excited for both of them.  Lynn and I went through the Temple with them when they went through for the first time.....Cathy was a convert,  she was not a member of the church when they were married.  She is so excited to see the change that has come to Terry's heart.

Another piece of news is there is no cancer found in Terry's body now.... it is gone...
