A Dusting of the Cobwebs....

welcome to my blog!
...allow me a brief introduction...

In a reacent conversation with my daughter, her questions were why I, and her Dad were so quiet about our lifes? Meaning writing or telling about our own personal historys.

I didn't think there was anything important to write about. As I was just a normal person, getting up in the morning and getting the day started, getting kids off to school, or meeting schedules of the whole family, cleaning house, and landry. Keeping little ones busy, and changing diapers, comming home fixing dinner, helping with homework, putting kids to bed, watch some news, go to bed. And then do it all over again the next day. Then some days was teaching lessons in Primary, RS, MIA, Sundayschool, cub scouts, or helping at schools, ect. Family home evening, Visiting teaching, and even some Home teaching and being the family schaefer. most of the time we had one car, 6 kids, one working husband. Oh yes, the multi years of music lessons, and baseball teams, coaching, and even one major jumproap champion, for one daughter.

We had trials too. some were very hard, just thinking about a single memory of losing our son, brings tears. But we are told that this life is to meet trials, and how we handle them will be for our own eternal growth.

A very wise Stake President, President Alred, once said "We are here to be schooled in the principles of eternity. We will work by the sweat of our brow, to work our way through this life... But remember we are here to be schooled in the principles of eternity."

So, I welcome you to my blog. Please feel free to stay and go as you please, and wander where you wish. And, as always, feel comfortable in sharing those stories that you may feel are just "an every day" thing as well...

Update...

June 28 2019

Pauli and I saw Dr. Thomas K. Varghese Jr., my Surgeon, at Huntsman Hospital.  I am scheduled for surgery on July 12.  They will remove the lower part of my left lung.   The tumor has shrunk some which is good.  However my body has a problem with the chemo causing my white blood count to drop too low to continue.  I may have to have more chemo after surgery.

I have been impressed with Dr Varghese, He seems to be very knowledgeable,  He is very kind, and a happy person.  He knows his worth and seems comfortable helping people.  He is older, which I am happy about.  He takes his time to make you feel comfortable, and understand what is going on.

Update...
I had surgery on the 12th of July, it ended being five hours long.  Dr. Varghese said once they got inside the opening in the back, he had discovered more damage inside.  They did deflate my left lung and remove the bottom half, took out part of my diaphragm , and a good hand size of my chest wall.  They did have to open my back to get to the areas needed.  I ended up having 30 staples down my back, and some stitches.  I also have dissolved stitches, and some that don't dissolve inside.

He did tell us that I was cancer free, and I don't need to see him until the middle of Oct.

Its hard to learn how to breath again..
My ward, and my kids have been wonderful...I was not to be alone at night for the first week, and they took turns spending the night with me.

Even Launie, and David, and Jodie, who live so far away came when Pauli had asked them too...
I could never Thank Pauli enough for all the long hours, caring for me and working everything out in my behalf...All the phone calls, driving me to Huntsman, and all over the place...I could not survive without her, and her family's large sacrifice in my behalf...

Pauli told me latter how she was blessed that she had not been sick, all year that she was caring for her mom...

Closing SL Temple...

April 19, 2019

Today President Nelson,  announced that the Salt Lake Temple will be closed  Dec 29, 2019. for four years.  The Temple, needs a lot  of renovations and updating.  This will also include Temple Square, and some of the Church office grounds.  All Temple workers will be released.

In this last General Conference, the Prophet announced a new Temple will be built in Tooele Utah.
Maybe I will be able to serve there, when its built.

Cancer in the lung

March 23 2019

Not getting any answers why I was having so much pain in my left side, just above my hip.. I called Pauli and told her I needed to go to the ER at the Hospital in Tooele, as I was not getting any answers as to why the pain.
I was seen by a smart Dr who saw something he must have reconized, for he on his own with my permission, called the University of Utah and had my information added to the Pulmonary unit there, which was also housed at Huntsman Hospital.

After many skans and test, I was informed, that I had a 2inch cancer tumor inside the bottom of my left lung. My lung is just above my diafram, or sits on it, and was causing it to be irritated, it was the pain I was feeling. The Surgeon said that when you have cancer in or of the lung, you don't feel it, and it also goes straight to the brain... so they gave me a brain skan.. No cancer.. next they needed to check my lymph nodes inside my  lung to see if any cancer was in any of those... No cancer.  They think the cancer is contained.

I have met with my chemo Dr. and also my Surgeon.  The plan for me is to have six weeks of chemo before having surgery, hoping to shrink the tumor before having surgery.

When I was set-apart by the Temple President He blessed me to have Good health,  Pauli said that He ordered me to have good health, among other things. I have also had two Priesthood blessing telling me I would have good health.  Later in one of the blessings I was told I could choose to stay or to go...

April 2 2019
I will be starting chemo on Monday, April 8th.  The Chemo is not as strong as the one I had before, and I might keep my hair.
Another blessing I have is that Pauli has arranged for each of my kids, except for Jennifer who lives in Arizona, to take turns driving me to Huntsman's, for its a day long process.  This way I have a captive child of mine that I  can catch up on what is happening in their lives...nice!

When you think about it, I have been given a great blessing.  No cancer in the brain or in the lymph nodes. Making it possible to be cured, with chemo and surgery. Living in a Ward that cares about me, and the best neighbors the Grua's in the whole world.  My daughter Pauli who dropped everything to help me, drive me to Huntsman, and make arrangements and keeping family, ward members, neighbors, who requested updates, and being the main contact between Huntsman and myself.

If I had not fallen last Sept. I would not have known about the cancer in my lung.  Pauli said that as I was on my way to work at the Temple, a Angel stuck out his foot and tripped me.... That's how I found out I had cancer.

I know dealing with cancer can be extremely frightening, as its mostly a death sentience, but looking at all the information I have, I am being blessed greatly.  Yes I will have things I have to face, but it does have a great outlook.

A Good Laugh...

4 January 2019

I have been in lots of aches and pains since I fell last Sept.  Fighting through  Pneumonia for two and half months and bruises every where, I seemed to be getting no answers about why my left hip area was hurting so much.  I had talked to Dr.s, five times but they seemed to be only interested in my lungs.   I made an appointment with Dr Douglas office, who had replaced both my hips and knees, because I knew I would get a xray done, and then would see if there was anything to be worried about.

After waiting for a hour, I was able to see Dr. Packham, one of the Dr.s who worked on me before.
After talking a little and expressing my concerns, he brought up my xray, and said something about seeing how I was held together with a Saftypin!

I could not believe my eyes for on the xray, in the middle of my body, between my hip and my stomic was a very large Saftypin!

After a minet I began to laugh, and explained that I had lost so much weight being sick, that I had to order new pants, Levis.  The waist was still too loose for me so I cut into the waist band and ran a new elastic.  I used a saftypin to hold the ends because I didn't know how much I would need to take out.
The Saftypin quietly slipped into the waistband when the pants were being washed, and I had forgotten about it.......Surprise!!...What A Surprise!

It was real good to talk with Dr Packham again.  He told me his oldest son has been in the Mission field for a year, and his next son will be ready for his mission in about a year and half, he was very excited.  He was also excited about the new Temple sessions which started last week, which are Awesome....

My Fall....

Sept 9 2018

I was on my way to the Temple, feeling good because I was going earlier.  I had found a parking space right away, and looking forward to my time serving in the Temple.
As I was walking across the stone walkway across the Conference Center,  My shoe caught one of the edges of one of the brick like stones, and I found myself heading toward the cement  My glasses went flying as my forehead, nose and chin hit the cement.  I thought for sure that I had broken my nose, and bit my lip.  I rolled on to my back, there was nothing I could do but lay there.  My head was hurting, my nose and mouth, also my knees and hands.

I heard someone ask if I was alright, I moved my head to indicate that I was not.  I heard her call for Security...  One of the Sisters I work with was soon at my side, holding my hand.  I also had in my hand my Temple recommend, which she took and put into my purse, so I would not loose it.... I asked her to tell Sis Rose, my supervisor, that I may not make it today.  I heard someone say that I was a Temple worker.
I was soon surrounded by Church Security, Temple Security, Paramedics, Fireman, and others.
I was checked over to make sure I would be ok,  Someone started asking me questions, How old was I...74, What is your name... Carolyn Walker, Do you know where you live... Grantsville, Do you have some identification?... They wanted to take me to a hospital, but I told them I could not afford it.  The Temple Security had brought a wheel chair for me to ride in, and they took me to the Temple. I was embarrassed, but grateful for all the kindness.  As I was helped to my feet, I saw a Paramedic van, and a Bright Cherry Red, brand new, huge ladder firetruck sitting on the corner!.....You could not have had a bigger flag than that!

I soon found Sister Rose, who told me that she had assigned my work schedule out, and I would be studding for a while.  After two hours of keeping a eye on me, she asked if I would be able to drive home. which I did.  Sister Rose gave me the phone number of the  Secretary to the Temple President, and told her I would be calling her.....and told me she wanted me to call her as soon as I got home.

My nose was swollen, my lip was too and bleeding inside my skin.  My chin ended up being black and blue with the blood bleeding inside.  My lip was swollen.  My forehead hurt.
I hurt all over, my wrist and knee were brused too....To my surprise, my glasses were not broken, not even a scratch on them...

Launie happened to come from Idaho, and stayed with me a few days, which was a great blessing.
After the shocked look on Brother Grua's face, I asked if he would give me a priesthood blessing.  Which he did, In the blessing he blessed me that my body would heal quickly.  He also said that Lynn was present....  Launie also said she had felt his presence to.

After seeing my Chiropractor, and my Doctor, I was told that I had a concussion,  and pneumonia on both sides... I see the Dr. in two weeks two see where I am at...

Week Three....

Sept 13, 2018

In the Temple this week, I had a full schedule.  Among them was my first time at the vale.
It was a small group, about 5 rows of sisters.  I knew everything perfectly at home, but walking in front of the vale I got scared.  I was hoping to be placed at the end of the line, but instead was placed about the third, which didn't help... I couldn't hide.

I made it through with the help of Sister Rose, my instructor....how ever I kept forgetting the last three words. I hope she couldn't see how I was shacking all over from head to toe.  I felt she could have scoped me up with a butter knife off the floor, and I told her so...

It is so different doing this as a worker... than going threw for yourself or a patron.
I realize how important this work is, and how many folks are waiting, and are stuck until their work can be finished.  I hope I learn fast, it makes you feel so good all week when you spend time in the Temple, and you make more friends who feel as you do...

Serving in Salt Lake Temple...

Sept 7 1820

I was surprised yesterday as I finished my shift at the Temple.  For about six hours of being on my feet and walking, and sitting, studying I was not in any pain.  Even my shoes did not erratae my feet.  But as soon as my shift was over the pain started in.  My back was in full pain by the time I drove home, my knees did not want to hold me up, and was painful to walk.  I felt totally exhasted, and I looked it in my face. One person told me I looked real tired.  Yet I came home with such a very special feeling, a inward happiness, and calmness.

I will start at the vale next week, I hope I will do well.  Our instructor, Nancy Rose, is awsome, she was also a school teacher, and a great sense of humor.  I found out that she likes to sew, and has made many fancy dresses, like wedding and formals dresses.
from what she has said, I believe she spends several days in the Temple. Both she and her husband serve in the Temple.
